you see it all the time - mothers accusing other mothers of being the perfect parent. you would think it would be a compliment, but it is not. it is meant as an insult.
i actually laugh when I see the term ‘perfect parent’ come up. why? because is there such a thing as a perfect parent? yes and no. yes, coz most parents are doing the best they can, and are the perfect parent for child. no, coz not one parenting style is the best.
i dont see any one claiming to be the prefect mother. i also dont believe that mothers believe they are above every one else. the simple fact is, they parent differently, have different opinions and more than likely are discussing (or debating) their parenting choice.
so what IS a perfect parent? a perfect parent is described simply as the mother who parents differently to other mothers. when does it get used? when a mother feels threatened by another mother, or is doubting her own parenting style.
basically any mother who involves herself fully and gives herself 100 percent in all or MOST aspects of her childrens life is considered a perfect parent. if she cooks all her baby's food from scratch and never gives it junk food, for instance, she is considered a perfect parent. if her children never watch television and are instead doing educational and hands on stuff instead, she is a perfect parent.
is she a perfect parent? no more than the next mother is.
i personally think it is a bit of jealousy, guilt and self doubt, but thats just me.
